The idea that achievement should be ranked and success acknowledged with material rewards or significant honours is ancient and enduring, and prizes abound to acknowledge outstanding performers in every field, from the arts, to sport, scientific discovery, and peace-making. So with all these awards, is there really a need for prizes which are exclusively for women? Do we need the Stella Prize and Telstra Business Women of the Year?
