Early-bird entries are now open to the 2022 Stella Prize.
The Stella Prize celebrates excellent, original, and engaging books by Australian women writers – cis, trans, and non-binary inclusive. The $50,000 Stella Prize will be awarded in 2022 thanks to the generous support of the Wilson Foundation. In addition to fiction and non-fiction, single-author poetry collections are also eligible for the first time.
Executive Director of Stella, Jaclyn Booton, says:
“This change reflects Stella’s ongoing commitment to supporting Australian women writers and growing their readership. We are delighted to extend our reach to the poetry community.”
In her Stella interview, Chair of the 2022 Stella Prize Judging Panel, Melissa Lucashenko, reflects on her own relationship with poetry:
Like many other writers it was poetry which set me on the path to becoming an author: and it’s poetry I still often turn to in those moments when life demands a brief burst of magic, or insight, or solace.”
Books entered in the 2022 Stella Prize must be first published between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021.
Early-bird entries will be eligible for a discounted entry fee of $55 (GST inclusive) and will be accepted from: 9am AEST Wednesday 25 August until 5pm AEST Wednesday 15 September 2021.
The rate for general entries is $77 (GST inclusive) and will be accepted from: 9am AEST Thursday 16 September until 5pm AEST Thursday 15 October 2021.
