We’re hiring! The Stella Prize is seeking an Assistant Prize Manager

The Stella Prize is looking for a dynamic person to join our small team as Assistant Prize Manager.

Who we are: The Stella Prize is a major literary award celebrating Australian women’s writing. The Stella Prize seeks to: recognise and celebrate Australian women writers’ contribution to literature; bring more readers to books by women and thus increase their sales; provide role models for schoolgirls and emerging female writers; reward one writer with a $50,000 prize.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a pivotal role assisting in the management and administration of the Stella Prize; coordinating Stella events, marketing and communications; and implementing aspects of the Stella Prize Schools Program. You will work closely with the Stella Prize Manager, as well as with the Executive Director of the Stella Prize, contract staff and interns. The ideal candidate will be extremely well organised, and possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Prior experience in the book industry would be an advantage.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Communications, including: regular social media updates; monthly e-newsletters; website copy and updates; press releases and other communications
  • Marketing and promotions, with assistance from the Prize Manager, including liaising with Stella Prize partners, publishers, authors, designers, booksellers and librarians
  • Events management, with assistance from the Prize Manager, including liaising with festival organisers, authors, publishers, booksellers, librarians and media
  • Assisting the Prize Manager with the entry and judging processes for the prize; liaising with the judges and organising their travel and itineraries etc.
  • Assisting the Prize Manager with the longlisted, shortlisted and winning authors, in terms of communications, travel arrangements, publicity etc.
  • Assisting the Executive Director with fundraising work including drafting grant proposals and acquittals; updating spreadsheets; preparing donor receipts and thank yous; proofreading of donor communications; researching Trusts & Foundations and possible funding options
  • Assisting with the operation and promotion of the Stella Prize Schools Program
  • Overseeing the Stella Count

Key Selection Criteria

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines, with the ability to prioritise workload and seek clarification and assistance when necessary
  • Exemplary organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Highly developed administrative skills and a systematic approach including computer literacy in Word, Excel and WordPress
  • Ability to work within budgets

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

Terms: This is a 12-month contract position, 3 days per week from 27 January 2015. (Some overtime and work outside of normal business hours will be essential during peak times)
Location: Based in the Nicholas Building, Melbourne
Reporting: To the Stella Prize Manager
Salary: To be negotiated with the successful applicant
